Sleep Scheduale Tuneup

by Dan on Feb.28, 2009, under Uncategorized

Like the title says, I think I need to change my sleeping habits around.

Sunday-Thursday, I normally sleep around 12-1.. sometimes later than 1 depending on if I’m having fun with a game or having an interesting conversation. I’m up by 7:30, at work by 9:30, done by 5:30 – then IF I come straight home I’m in by 6:30, do my workout by 7-8:30, shower, have dinner, and sit to play/study/smoke/whatever until 12 or 1. If it’s my off day and Im not working out, Im normally ready by 8. Then there are nights I go out, and I’m home by 11:30, shower, then sleep. Now that really isn’t a HORRIBLE scheduale. I could afford to sleep earlier and wake up 30 minutes sooner, but I haven’t reached that point in my goals yet.

Friday-Sunday things get a little wonky. Fridays go the same as any other day, except I’m in bed between 2 and 4am. Not horrible if I get 8 hours of sleep, right? Or if I get the same amount I get during the week. That would mean Id GENERALLY be up between 8:30 and 10:30.

The earlier the better (Im realizing) because then I have more of a day to enjoy. As it stands right now, Saturdays and Sundays are my SHORTEST days – Fridays tend to be my longest. I’m up by 12 or 1. SOMETIMES depending on the night before it could reach 2PM! And I’m finding that to be VERY bleh at this point. Sund -Thurs my days are at LEAST 16.5 – 17 hours long, come the weekends, I’m waking up at noon, and I lose the whole morning, on BOTH days.

I mean I DO generally wake up after 6 – 7 hours of sleeping, but on a weekend my very first instinct is to keep sleeping. Today for example, I was up once at about 8:30 and just stayed curled in bed until around 10:30.. then tossed for a good 1.5 hours until I was ready to get up. Don’t get me wrong! There is nothing wrong with doing this now and then, but EVERY weekend? I think after 3 years of this, I need to wake up and smell some breakfast.

I’m also trying to figure out the direct cause of this. Pot is probably (I should say more than likely), one of the direct causes of it. It prevents a person from experiencing REM sleep. Totally inhibits, which is when we get the majority of our ‘rest’ so to speak. It’s also when we dream. I can’t say I go to bed sober, but for the most part I do may best to not smoke anything about 2 hours before I sleep. SAVE FOR WEEKENDS.. haha.. even as I write this, it seems to make a lot more sense in my head. But nevertheless, it is not the only proximal cause.

Back when I was studying like an animal, I was playing VERY little of anything. Maybe a 40 minutes for the whole day of Warhammer, and I’d spent the majority of my spare time reading and studying. Maybe it has to do with what parts of my brain are constantly working (IE reading/studying may activate more areas of my brain, and gaming my not use as much (it’s really easy to play, and not hard to remember anything really.. unless I’m high.. Arenas in WoW..good times! Jess would say otherwise though..)

A lot to think about..

A new work week..

by Dan on Feb.09, 2009, under Uncategorized

Well, I’ve successfully made it to work EARLY for a change, normally I’m used to being here right at 9:30 and starting my work right away. Today I’m here about 15 minutes early and figured I had a few minutes to kill and thought I would write here.

I’ll hopefully be talking to Maks today about the song that is in the works right now (www.myspace.com/maksk) titled “Not enough”.

Something isn’t sitting well with me right now though, and that’s writers rights. On the page it’s listed that he’s the author, but the lyrics are mine. I’ve also made sure to leave a ‘papertrail’ behind indicating that I wrote the words. So worst case scenario is covered.. I just hate having distrust instilled in my mind. It’s a blessing and a curse to have every one of my friends and family that have heard it to say “Make sure you get whats yours, and don’t trust people too much”

Bleh. Off to work.

Time to beat the drums of WAR

by Dan on Feb.04, 2009, under Uncategorized

This isn’t about Warhammer, but the title fit.

I’m going to war at work with my manager, and most likely the team of management in the Administration department (the VP of the department is included in this).

I have a shitty job (it’s a job, it pays bills, but it’s shitty) delivering mail for an insurance company. Woohoo. For months and months and about a year my timelines for completing schedualed mail-runs have not been as good as management wants them to be. Over the course of the last year, they have added about 90 minutes of work to my day. Anyone with half a brain can understand that “If something is running late, adding to this will make it even more late” However management seems to be aloof of this concept.

So I went with it, doing my best, taking the stairs 95% of my day to avoid waiting for elevators (we’ve had 2 working since September) for the sake of these so called time-lines. I’m told today that I need to move even faster (When I’ve already increased overall speed by 20 minutes). So I’m going to take a passive-agressive approach that is SURE to piss people off, and there isn’t a damn thing they can do.

Elevator, elevator, elevator! I’m going to take the elevator for each and every floor, regardless of the fact that I can take the stairs and save myself about 3-5 minutes per floor waiting for them. With 8 floors, that’s 24-40 minutes of ‘idle’ time. I can’t be forced to take the stairs, and am going to use the resources provided to me to get things done. It’s not my fault the elevators are being renovated, so why should I change anything? At the same time, I’ll be writing up how much time is spent on each floor, with a highlight of elevator idle time, and slam it on my managers desk each and every afternoon. They’ll see how retarded their expectations are, and I’ll have a blast doing it.

This is coupled with the fact that I got a poor review due to time-management, which at this point I’m writing up a massive formal essay to refute much of the review and counter most of their statements. My favourite one so far is along the lines of “his deliveries have a great impact on workflow of the company” I agree with this, but what they left out is “The mail room is responsible for ensuring that the mail cart is ready to go at designated times” if its not ready, I can’t go, which makes everything late. The morning is when the mail room is responsible for my cart, the morning is when I lose time and fall behind, anyone see a connection? If you do based on just this blog you should probably contact my employer and call them douchebags.

I’m debating becoming a hermit for 3 weeks and just studying my brokerage books. The sooner I get my license, the sooner I can tell this department to fuck off and just move into insurance sales/service. Of course management can opt to not allow me to apply, in which case I tell them to fuck off and walk off the job. I have nothing to lose at that point, I’ll have my license, and any insurance company will hire someone with their license (it saves them 1 month of paid training for the course)

Winning this war is in my hands, well my brain, and discipline, to get this shit done.

I feel a bit better. Yay blogging <3 Jess
